Day 2- New Orleans

Day 2- New Orleans

Bashfuls here again!!! As we all got to know each other even more, we saw some meaningful and interesting places as we drove through the southern states.

Our day started at 5:45 AM as we left for our bus tour around Auburn University. Sealey S. told us about the history of Auburn when we stopped for photos after the tour. After the quick stop, we headed to Wal-Mart for our cooks to decide on and buy a breakfast and lunch meal!!!

Can you see how early it is??

Once in Wal-Mart, the happy group decided on bagels for breakfast and pizza burritos, consisting of tortilla bread, pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni all wrapped up in a burrito. We also had cookies and chips on the side. Everyone was definitely skeptical at first as to how good the burritos would be, but they turned out to be pretty good!!!

On the bus and vans, we sang and jammed out to a variety of music, ranging from old country to modern alternative. On some of the vans the groups would play UNO, riddles, write letters to people back home, catch up on our journals and some of us even played a game of telephone!!! Several people slept the whole bus ride, some with their mouths wide open.  Mrs. V and William walked around putting chips in their mouths.  One group was late back to the bus, so people took pictures as Mrs. V yelled at them to run!!!

We arrived at the Mississippi Welcome Center to stretch our legs and take a bathroom break.  Alex was asleep on the bus the entire time not realizing that the rest of the campers were listening to a presentation and spelling out Mississippi with their arms!

Your lovely bloggers, the Bashfuls!

Once we arrived in New Orleans, we listened to research presented to us while we sat on the steps of the Mississippi River. The trains and steamboats interrupted some of the research, but we paused to be able to hear the interesting information about New Orleans and all the spots we visited. After the research we headed off to Café Dumonde and enjoyed some beignets!! We were all shocked as to how crowded and crazy the restaurant was and the surrounding areas. We made our way on over to St. Louis Cathedral to take pictures and explore the church. Eventually we were given free time to go off with our new friends. Some of us explored the shops on Bourbon St. and the surrounding areas and found some pretttyyy interesting things along the streets of New Orleans.

Tonight we ate chicken alfredo with Texas Toast and salad!! After we ran out of alfredo, some of the campers used ranch with their noodles and it was surprisingly good!!! This was our first nice meal of the trip and we are looking forward to see what else other groups come up with to eat.

The competition for the night was to recreate a new version of the infamous song “Dixieland Delight." While us Bashfuls did not win this competition, we are still first overall! The sleepys blew away the competition by acting like it was a church service, which got laughs from all of us.

Sleepys take the win!

The counselors threw all the participants their TWB gear tonight and everyone was super excited to see how the gear looked! Now we'll be wearing some new clothes in photos.

Tomorrow we head out to San Antonio to go on the River Walk!!! We are looking forward to a day full of driving and getting to know everyone even more!!
