Day 11- Highway 1

Day 11: Highway 1

Sleepys are back! This morning we woke up at the beautiful El Capitan Beach. Because it was a long wait for the bathroom, many decided to avoid the lines by brushing their teeth in the campground sink. The lines for the restrooms and our early morning grogginess caused us to be 20 minutes late and Miss Beautiful was not happy. She offered us sticks to beat those who were running behind.

We hopped on the bus and took a short nap before arriving at Walmart where the cooks purchased our wonderful meals for the day. We got back on the bus and the cooks prepared our traveling breakfast of muffins and gogurt. We then made our way up the West Coast on the notorious Highway 1 and enjoyed the view of the breathtaking Pacific Ocean. On our way we stopped at a vista overlook to use the restroom and take in the view. While the fog made it difficult to see the ocean, many walked down a trail at the overlook to get a closer view of the ocean.

After the vista overlook, we continued our drive up Highway 1 and sang famous TWB songs. We soon arrived at the TWB Rock. The participants were filled with confusion while the counselors began putting tarps down on the side of the highway. We got out of the van and joined together for a sing along. On TWB, we are often rushed and in a hurry to see everything that we possibly can in the short 23 days that we have together. At this moment, we were able to take a breather and take in not only the beautiful sight of our country, but also the beautiful sight of the most precious aspect of this trip: our family.

Once we got back on the bus, the cooks prepared our pizza wraps and we had a delightful traveling lunch. We made our way to Monterey and continued to see even more of the beautiful coast. While in Monterey, we only had 20 minutes due to our tardiness in getting the bus early this morning.

After walking around Monterey, we went back to our vehicles and were on our way to San Francisco. Sub sandwiches were made by the Bashfuls and we all dined in for a traveling dinner. Miss America, however, did not have bread and unfortunately was not able to eat until after we unpacked in San Francisco. While continuing games of what are the odds and having many jam sessions, we soon arrived at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in San Francisco. We were introduced to the amazing couple, Jerry and Penny. We are so grateful that they have provided us a safe and warm place to stay. They taught us about the history of San Francisco and shared personal opinions about the city. We are also fortunate enough to be showering at the YMCA in San Fran. We are now speed showering (3 minutes!!) and bedding down. Tomorrow we have a fun packed day touring the lovely city of San Francisco.  Goodnight everyone, peace and love, Sleepys.
